Jelly Belly Factory tour--Finally!
We have traversed the I-5 corridor almost every year on our way to and fro, and yet we have not been able to stop and tour the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield, CA--well not until this year--we finally did it! 
We smelled the aromas--blueberry, cherry, cinnamon, root beer and my favorite popcorn, we listened to the videos, we viewed the making and creating of these little bits of explosive flavors and we ate all the samples they provide us--yummy. This is an interesting tour with great info, history and of course those wonderful samples.
The company traces its history back to 1867 when their descendants created delectable sweets. But it was in 1976 that this family hit on a special candy--the Jelly Belly. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable providing us a tour of a real working factory, outlying family history and sharing her personal reflections on the factory operations. We could not believe it takes a week to bring a single Jelly Belly to shipment, and that each and every bean is stamped with the little logo Jelly Belly--yep take a look. Every flavor is explored, tasted and only delivered after it meets several tests. Then there are the many famous portraits made entirely of Jelly Bellies. 
We recommend this factory tour to all who find themselves within the area.

Delta Shores, outside Sacamento
We are traveling north toward Oregon and decided to stay at a park we have not been before, making Delta Shores RV Resort on the Delta just west of Sacramento our home for the next few days. For the past several weeks they have had heavy rains, and unfortunately the grounds throughout the campground are water-soaked. The campground is in the process of drying out, but most of the campsites are still drenched from the rains. This made our selection of sites a bit precarious, but finally we settled on a site we thought might provide us with stability. So far so good, at least as long as there is no more rain:)
The weather for the last 3 days has been warm and sunny--we appreciate that! Once we arrived and settled into the site with the least amount of water-logged give, we set out to visit the surrounding area. There is a lot of history in this area and wanted to explore what there was to be seen.
Not far from here is the town of Locke which is purported to be the only existing town in America built and inhabited almost exclusively by Chinese until recent years. Located about 30 miles south of Sacramento, Locke is the legacy of the extraordinary efforts made by the Chinese in developing agriculture in California. Locke still looks almost as it did 50 years ago, and in 1970 was placed on the Registry of National Historic Places. We found several wonderful stores to visit, like a quaint antique store that even had a few china dishes to add to our small collection, and a bookstore where we met a sweet proprietor, who gifted us with fresh asparagus for no reason at all, except he liked us, and located a rare Hawaiian cookbook for Dianne which we quickly bought:). This town provide us a fun surprise--thank you Linn & Lynn for giving us he heads up.
